2009 Outreach Activities

Six Point Loma High School students of history teacher Patrick McElhaney were recognized for essays they wrote about their reflection after watching the movie "Nanking" or “War in China” at the Fourth Annual Point Loma History Awards Banquet at Bali Hai Restaurant in the evening of June 3rd,2009. APHAFIC donated $200.00 cash award to the high school and Nancy Lo presented cash award , certificate of recognition and a copy of Irish Chang’s Rape of Nanking, the Forgotten Holocaust to each of the six students. The six students are Dylan Springsteen , Jazzmin Jackson, Blanca Lira, Hillevi Sandell, Susie Gates, and Sumner Santos.

APHFIC board members visited two high schools: Nancy Lo and Jack Meng spoke to San Diego two high school history classes in January 22 and Jack Meng, Michael Lee and Pao-Chin Chu visited Sun Yat-Sen Chinese language school on March 22 and spoke to students of AP, Credit and adult classes, about WWII history in Asia.

In 2008, Drs. Shau-Jin Chang and Ying-Ying Chang generously donated 50 copies of The Denial and its cost, reflections on Nanking massacre 70 years ago and beyond: Best essays from iris Chang memorial essay contest 2007. APHFIC members and friends donated 56 books, including some copies of Iris Chang and the forgotten holocaust, best essays from Iris Chang memorial essay contests in 2006 to local public libraries, high school and college , including UCSD,SDSU, Grossmont College, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Torrey Pines, Canyon Crest, Carmel Valley library and libraries in other part of US, e.g. LA, IL, Delaware, and Nevada.

Nancy Lo presented certificates, cash awards and books on the Rape of Nanking to Point Loma high school students with Mr. Patrick McElhaney, history teacher, on the side.
